Balance

Today we were doing some work on Body Attack. One of the things we were working on was Balance. We put some bricks(lego) on our head and tried to go from a sitting position to our knees. This was a little tricky for some of our tamariki! We tried holding the lego on the back of our hand and walking around, we put some bricks on our head and on our opened palms while walking around- there was lots of laughter as the bricks fell to the ground. Lots of perseverance and kind words encouraging one another to do well. Super effort everyone!

Fakamālo atu kia te koutou uma (Greeting everyone). This week is Tokelauan

Language Week. The theme this year is wellbeing and how celebrating language and

culture can add to our spiritual and physical health.

I'm back at school this week. I fractured my ankle on Wednesday and needed to rest my

foot. I am back at school with a moon boot on for 6 weeks.

Baptism Programme

The Baptism Programme begins next week and we have room for a couple more children.

If you are interested in joining this programme please email your class teacher or the

school office - thanks.

Swimming

Kakano 3 had an absolute blast in the swimming pool last week. Kakano 2 and 1 are swimming this week. The pool is beautifully warm (about 30 degrees) and is very well maintained by our ever patient and hard working caretaker. We are so lucky to have

such a great facility in our school and we do expect that children will have their togs

each day during their swimming weeks.

Fluffy friends

Today we got to meet some new fluffy friends. Madeline had some new chicks which she asked

if we would like to see. Everyone got to hold them-they were so cute and fluffy. An awesome

start to our day.

Week 1 Term 4

 Week One Term 4 2021

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday. You were all growing sooo much in Term 3 that we’re wondering how tall you are now and how many teeth you have left after 2 weeks away.

Term 4 is always a bit busy. We have Rosary, liturgies, sports days, try-athlons, swimming, prizegiving, special end of year events and we’ll be carrying on with our usual exciting days of learning. Some of the organisation depends on covid levels etc so there are likely to be lots of changes to the master plan. Please, read the blog and the newsletters so that you don’t miss out.

 MONTH OF THE ROSARY

October is the month of the Rosary. We will gather as a school (in a Covid friendly way) to pray the Rosary. The Rosary draws its mysteries from the New Testament and each decade refers to an event in the life of Jesus and Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary give us “thumbnails” of the life of Christ and his Mother.

  • The Joyful Mysteries are taken mostly from Saint Luke’s Gospel in the New Testament. They involve the joyful events of Jesus’ childhood.

  • The Luminous Mysteries bring a deeper understanding to the public life of Jesus. They fill in the blanks between the childhood of Jesus and His suffering and death on the cross.

  • The Sorrowful Mysteries remind us of how much Jesus loves us. They recall how He suffered and died just for us.

  • The Glorious Mysteries tell us what happened after Jesus died-His Resurrection, the descent of the Holy Spirit and the love Jesus had for his Mother.

EARLY FINISH FOR PROFESSIONAL. DEVELOPMENT:

Tuesday 2nd November at 2.30pm, our staff, along with teachers from St Michael’s Rotorua, St Mary’s Putararu and Bishop Edward Gaines in Tokoroa are involved in Titiro Whakamuri kia haere whakamua Professional Development.  WORKING BEE.

We intend to have a working bee on the third Saturday after the holidays, October 30th. There are a number of jobs that need to be done. I really appreciate the support we get from you, so thank you in anticipation. Children are welcome and we will have a BBQ lunch.

SWIMMING

The pool is in perfect condition for swimming. Thanks to Richard for preparing the pool. The water temperature is around 30 degrees, so it is beautifully warm. The pool is a great facility and we expect that children will have their swimming togs with them when their class is timetabled for swimming. Kakano 1 and Kakano 2 start swimming next week and will swim every even week.  Kakano 3 swims this week and every odd week. There may be times that we share/swap so keep watching the notices on our blogs.

UNIFORMS

Lots of parents have been in to sort out summer uniforms. Students are to start Term 4 in full summer uniform. Our Uniform Shop is open Mondays (8.30-9.00am), Wednesdays (2.30-3.00pm) & Fridays (8.30-9.00am) during term time. We also sell school uniforms via our school website. You can order and pay online and pick up your uniform from the school reception after you have been notified by email that the uniform is ready to pick up. The girls’ summer dresses are currently only available from our school uniform shop.

Please don’t forget children need to wear the school sun hats in term 4. We have 2-3 spares for emergencies but can not provide hats for everyone. Children will need their own, please.

Please, please, please make sure that EVERYTHING is named with your child’s name (not a big sibling, cousin or family friend or a random piece of pink cotton).  Getting 20+ small kids dressed before/after swimming is challenging enough without being able to identify uniforms.

Smores-Golden Time

Today for Golden time we had s’mores. Mrs D cooked them until melting point in the microwave. They were delicious and hot. No one complained so they must have been good! It was lovely to share a Golden time with the crew again! Have a wonderful break everyone and stay safe!
Thanks to Jeanie for all the photos!

Six bricks

Today we did some work with our 6 bricks. We had to pick a partner and go back to back. Each group named themselves either A or B. A’s made a model and then they had to tell the B’s to follow instructions to complete it without looking at it. Check to see which ones followed the instructions! Jenik was being the leader as we had odd numbers.

Learning to listen and follow instructions.

Develop listening skills.
Follow instructions.

Be specific when giving instructions.

Cricket skills this week

Today we had a fantastic opportunity to learn some cricket skills. We did some throwing and catching using our hands in a w shape to catch the ball. We did some striking skills in teams. It was a great time had by all.

Learning to throw, strike and catch.

Learn hand eye coordination skills.

Learn how to catch a ball with w hands.

Learn how to strike a ball using different poses.

Week 9 Term 4

Week 9 Term 4 This is our last few days together in Kakano 1-3. We have lots going on this week. It has been a sheer pleasure teaching you...
